Cypress Essential Oil
Cypress Essential Oil has a fresh, woody, and evergreen aroma with a clean coniferous character and a dry resinous undertone. Known for its calm, structured, and forest-like profile, it’s ideal for candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, perfumes, and personal care formulations where a crisp woody-green note is desired. This oil brings clarity, freshness, and natural aromatic depth to blends, especially when paired with cedarwood, pine, rosemary, lavender, frankincense, bergamot, vetiver, or citrus oils.
Cypress Essential Oil offers excellent versatility across candles, diffusers, soaps, perfumes, and personal care formulations, with very generous IFRA allowance in key applications and no headline restriction for candles, diffusers, or soaps. Its clean woody-green profile makes it especially useful in spa, forest, herbal, masculine, fresh-air, and wellness-inspired blends without becoming too sharp or medicinal. A classic coniferous material, Cypress helps give structure to citrus, herbal, woody, resinous, and aromatic compositions while adding a calm Mediterranean evergreen character.

Please note
This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.
For specific usage limits, please refer to the Cypress Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Olfactive Profile
- Note classification: Top to middle note
- Scent family: Woody / Green / Coniferous / Aromatic
Cypress Essential Oil has a fresh, woody, green profile with coniferous, resinous, dry, slightly spicy, and clean aromatic nuances. It feels drier and more structured than fir, less sharp than pine, and greener than cedarwood. Its character is elegant, outdoorsy, and naturally calming, making it especially useful in forest, spa, aromatic, woody, herbal, masculine, fougere, and fresh-air compositions.
The opening is crisp, green, and coniferous, while the drydown becomes drier, woodier, and softly resinous. Compared to heavier woody oils, Cypress brings more lift and airiness, making it valuable when a formula needs a clean evergreen impression without becoming dense, smoky, or overly resinous.

Formulation & Creative Uses
Cypress Essential Oil works as a fresh coniferous top-to-middle note with a dry woody-green structure. It adds crispness, clarity, forest freshness, and natural aromatic lift to a formula, helping citrus, herbal, woody, resinous, musky, or spa-style compositions feel cleaner and more structured. It is especially useful when a blend needs a refined evergreen effect without the heavier resinous character of frankincense or the sharper profile of pine.
Common applications
- Diffusers: Excellent for forest, spa-like, fresh-air, grounding, herbal, masculine, clean aromatic, and Mediterranean evergreen blends.
- Candles & wax melts: Adds crisp woody-green freshness, especially in forest walk, Mediterranean woods, winter air, spa, herbal woods, masculine home fragrance, and clean botanical compositions.
- Soaps: Brings a fresh coniferous character, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
- Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
- Perfumery: Useful in aromatic fougeres, woody colognes, green accords, masculine fresh blends, forest compositions, herbal structures, chypre-style bases, and clean resinous profiles.
Creative directions
Use Cypress Essential Oil when a formula needs freshness, green structure, and a calm woody-coniferous backbone. It works especially well in blends that feel too sweet, heavy, warm, fruity, floral, or soft, helping the composition become more structured, natural, and outdoorsy.
For forest and evergreen blends, combine Cypress with pine, fir, cedarwood, juniper, rosemary, eucalyptus, vetiver, or frankincense to create a crisp woodland effect. For citrus-aromatic directions, use it with bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, lime, petitgrain, or mandarine to build a clean fresh opening with a dry green base. For spa and wellness-inspired compositions, pair it with lavender, clary sage, rosemary, frankincense, soft musks, or clean woods to create a calm botanical atmosphere.
Cypress is also useful in masculine colognes, fresh herbal soaps, Mediterranean-inspired candles, clean woody diffusers, forest shower gels, and aromatic room blends. Because it is terpenic, coniferous, and recognisably green, it can become sharp or too “pine-cleaner” if overdosed. It performs best when balanced with citrus oils, woods, soft herbs, resins, musks, or gentle amber materials that round its fresh evergreen character.
Storage & Natural Variations
Cypress Essential Oil is classified as flammable, harmful if swallowed, irritating to the skin, sensitising, irritating to the eyes, hazardous if swallowed and enters the airways, and very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. The final safety assessment, dilution level, labeling, and regulatory compliance remain the responsibility of the manufacturer.
Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, viscosity, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, origin, needle and twig quality, branch age, distillation conditions, aging, and natural compositional variation.
Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.
To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Cypress Essential Oil contains terpenic materials and should be protected from oxidation to preserve its fresh woody-green character. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, keep away from ignition sources, and avoid release into drains, surface water, or the environment.
