Scent profile: Citrus/Spicy/Woody

Please note

This is not a perfume. It is a highly concentrated perfume oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, perfumes, soaps, and other personal care items. Do not apply directly to the skin. All our fragrance oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.

This material is supplied as a raw ingredient. Full compositional and allergen information is provided in the SDS and Allergen Declaration documents found in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Behavioral Profile

  • Diffusion: Strong, led by Iso E Super and Galaxolide.
  • Texture: Smooth, dry, aromatic, and leathery.
  • Opening Impression: Bright citrus with clean aromatic lift.
  • Structure: Citrus-fougère top over woods, leather, tonka, and tobacco.
  • Character: Masculine, polished, woody, and evening-like.

Indigo Signal Perfume Oil is built around a polished woody-aromatic structure where Iso E Super, Galaxolide, Cedrol, Cedrol Methyl Ether, guaiac wood oil, Vertofix, and Cashmeran create the main masculine base. Dihydromyrcenol, Linalyl Acetate, Linalool, lemon oil, lime terpenes, and lavandin oil give the formula its bright citrus-fougère lift. Coumarin provides the tonka warmth, while Piperonal, Helional, alpha-iso-Methylionone, Florol, and Hydroxycitronellal add the soft floral-anisic shading behind the olive blossom and star anise effect. The leather and tobacco impression comes mainly through the dry woody-amber materials rather than a heavy smoky base. The result is a refined citrus aromatic leather with bright lemon freshness, smooth tonka warmth, and a dry woody-musky masculine finish.

Discoloration potential: Heavy

Indigo Signal Perfume Oil contains numerous oxidation-prone and discoloration-inducing ingredients, including alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde, Coumarin, Hydroxycitronellal, Helional, and Acetyl Cedrene (Vertofix). These compounds are known to cause ambering or browning in cosmetic and candle formulations, especially in light or heat-exposed environments. The presence of citrus oils (e.g., lemon, lime) and resinoids like Bulnesia sarmienti extract further increase discoloration risk

  • Discoloration toward amber or brown is very likely over time.
  • Best suited for rustic, woody, or dark-themed products where warm discoloration aligns with the fragrance concept.
  • Not suitable for white, pastel, or transparent applications where visual clarity is important.

Application Compatibility

This fragrance is oil-soluble and designed for use in oil-based and alcohol-based formulations. It does not mix directly with water-based systems without the use of an appropriate solubilizer.

Storage

To reduce discoloration, store in a cool, dark, and airtight environment and consider antioxidant stabilizers if applicable.

Usage & Performance

Fragrance performance varies depending on the base, formulation, and production conditions. Cold throw, hot throw, diffusion strength, and longevity are influenced by the materials used and the manufacturing process.

A typical development process involves:

  • Initial scent evaluation (10g sample)
  • Small batch testing (e.g. 50g scale)
  • Full-scale production once performance is validated

Testing under your specific conditions is standard practice in product development. Evaluation at each stage is required prior to scaling.

Recommended usage guidelines

  • Candles: 7%-12%
  • Reed diffusers: 15%-25%
  • Personal perfumes: 10%-15%
  • Soaps: 1%-3%

These ranges reflect typical formulation practices and are provided for general guidance only. They do not represent maximum permitted levels.

Please Note

Typical-use ranges are general formulation benchmarks, not product-specific recommendations. Suitability is determined by comparing the stated typical-use range with the maximum permitted concentration shown in the current supplier IFRA document.

This guide does not confirm scent performance, base compatibility, stability, device compatibility or complete finished-product compliance. Appropriate testing and all applicable safety, labelling and regulatory requirements remain the responsibility of the finished-product manufacturer.

Product Guidance & FAQs

How can I use this perfume oil and at what concentration?

This is a concentrated fragrance oil intended for formulation into finished products including personal perfumes, candles, diffusers, soaps and other fragranced products. Recommended concentration depends on the application; for personal perfumes, a typical starting range is 10–15%. Always refer to the Product Suitability Guide and applicable IFRA limits before formulating.

Will it smell exactly like the original perfume?

No fragrance interpretation should be expected to reproduce another perfume with absolute one-to-one accuracy. Our Inspired Scents are professionally developed fragrance oils designed to capture the recognisable character, olfactive direction and overall scent identity of their reference while remaining independent fragrance compositions. Differences in individual notes, balance and development are normal.

Will my finished perfume perform like the original?

Not necessarily. Longevity, projection, diffusion and development depend on much more than the fragrance oil itself, including fragrance concentration, alcohol or carrier system, maturation, formulation and production method. A finished designer perfume is a complete formulated product; this material is the fragrance component from which you develop your own finished product.

How much finished perfume can I make from this oil?

The quantity of finished perfume depends on your chosen fragrance concentration. The oil is not a ready-made perfume intended simply to be divided between bottles; it forms one percentage of the complete formulation together with alcohol, carrier materials and any other required components. For example, producing five 100 ml perfumes from a 10 g bottle would require an extremely low fragrance concentration and would not correspond to our normal 10–15% guideline for personal perfumes.

Does this perfume oil contain regulated substances?

Fragrance compositions may contain regulated fragrance allergens and, in some cases, other substances subject to concentration limits under EU legislation. Where applicable, these are disclosed in the product documentation and taken into account in the classification of the fragrance oil. The individual classification of an ingredient does not automatically mean that the fragrance oil itself carries the same classification.

Can I apply this perfume oil directly to my skin?

No. Despite the name “Perfume Oil”, this is a concentrated fragrance raw material, not a finished roll-on perfume or cosmetic product. It must be incorporated into an appropriately formulated finished product and used within the applicable IFRA limits for the intended application.

Should I test it in my own formulation?

Yes. Scent character and performance change depending on concentration, carrier, base and production conditions. We recommend evaluating a small quantity first and producing a representative test batch before committing to larger-scale production.
