Please note

This is not a perfume. It is a highly concentrated fragrance oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, perfumes, soaps, and other personal care items. Do not apply directly to the skin. All our fragrance oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.

This material is supplied as a raw ingredient. Full compositional and allergen information is provided in the SDS and Allergen Declaration documents found in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Packaging note: 10g testers are supplied in PET bottles for affordable evaluation and are not intended for long-term archival storage. Production sizes from 50g upwards are supplied in premium aluminium bottles for improved long-term protection. Read more

Behavioral Profile

  • Diffusion: Smooth expansive diffusion with elegant musky persistence
  • Texture: Powdery, silky, creamy, and cashmere-soft
  • Opening Impression: Bright citrus sparkle immediately softened by velvety floral powder and clean musk
  • Structure: Fresh citrus opening melting into a dense iris-violet heart and woody-musky drydown
  • Character: Sophisticated, intimate, cosmetic, and haute-parfumerie inspired

Purple Iris Fragrance Oil is built around an elegant ionone-musky framework where methyl ionone, Florol, piperonal, and soft violet materials recreate the texture of powdered iris wrapped in fine fabric and cosmetic musk. Iso E Super gives the composition remarkable transparency and diffusion while Fixolid, Romanone Extra, and coumarinic warmth soften the floral heart into a creamy cashmere-like drydown. Citrus terpenes and floral aromatics keep the opening luminous and refined without disturbing the smooth powdery structure beneath. The result is a sophisticated iris floral with silky violet powder facets, airy woody diffusion, and a soft musky-tonka finish.

CLP Label Generation

At 4.1% fragrance usage, certain CLP label elements may become required for this mixture. Below 4.1%, the product is generally not classified under CLP, although supplemental EUH208 allergen labelling may still apply from 2.2%. Use our interactive CLP Label Generator to calculate indicative labelling requirements based on your intended usage level and application type.

IFRA Maximum Usage Levels

  • Candles: 100%
  • Diffusers: 3.69%
  • Perfumes: 9.32%
  • Soaps: 3.69%

For full category-specific limits, refer to the Purple Iris Fragrance Oil IFRA certificate available in the “Related Documents” tab.

Discoloration Potential: Light

Purple Iris Fragrance Oil contains several floral aldehydes, terpene derivatives, and natural oils that may gradually yellow or warm in tone, especially in soap or exposed wax.

  • Expect gradual yellowing, particularly in soaps, white wax, or clear personal care products over time.
  • Works well in pastel or creamy floral-themed products where slight tone deepening won’t clash with design.
  • Less ideal for ultra-clear or snow-white products unless discoloration is stabilized.

Application Compatibility

This fragrance is oil-soluble and designed for use in oil-based and alcohol-based formulations. It does not mix directly with water-based systems without the use of an appropriate solubilizer.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark, and airtight environment to preserve stability and minimize oxidation over time.

Usage & Performance

Fragrance performance varies depending on the base, formulation, and production conditions. Cold throw, hot throw, diffusion strength, and longevity are influenced by the materials used and the manufacturing process.

A typical development process involves:

  • Initial scent evaluation (10g sample)
  • Small batch testing (e.g. 50g scale)
  • Full-scale production once performance is validated

Testing under your specific conditions is standard practice in product development. Evaluation at each stage is required prior to scaling.

Recommended usage guidelines

  • Candles: 7%-12%
  • Reed diffusers: 15%-25%
  • Personal perfumes: 10%-15%
  • Soaps: 1%-3%

These ranges reflect typical formulation practices and are provided for general guidance only. They do not represent maximum permitted levels.

Please Note

Typical-use ranges are general formulation benchmarks, not product-specific recommendations. Suitability is determined by comparing the stated typical-use range with the maximum permitted concentration shown in the current supplier IFRA document.

This guide does not confirm scent performance, base compatibility, stability, device compatibility or complete finished-product compliance. Appropriate testing and all applicable safety, labelling and regulatory requirements remain the responsibility of the finished-product manufacturer.

    It’s beautiful!
The cashmere comes through 1st imo.
It’s a very clean fresh fragrance

Ah, Iris! It’s like a box of chocolates … you never know what you are going to get! Sometimes it’s an overwhelming powder bomb, sometimes more like a stand-up men’s cologne, sometimes sweet, sometimes chilly, or carroty or more floral … it can be clean or musty, screechy, or a dreamy, gorgeous vintage scent. I’m always ready to be surprised! This strikes more of a “lavender”-type accord for me. It doesn’t smell like lavender, but it is a more masculine-leaning, sharpish scent which isn’t what I was really hoping for (for perfume blend for me), but I’m thinking of mixing with Guaic Forest, some musk, and maybe … bergamot and a little rose? for my husband. Or maybe amp up the violet and jasmine, and add some vanilla for me. Not sure yet, but it will be interesting to experiment with!

Product Guidance & FAQs

How can I use this fragrance oil and at what concentration?

Recommended usage depends on the intended application. Typical formulation ranges and the applicable IFRA maximum are shown in the Product Suitability Guide above. The IFRA maximum is a regulatory limit and should not be interpreted as the recommended formulation level. We recommend working within the normal usage range for your product type and testing before production.

Does this fragrance oil contain regulated substances?

Fragrance compositions may contain regulated fragrance allergens and, in some cases, other substances subject to concentration limits under EU legislation. Where applicable, these are disclosed in the product documentation and taken into account in the classification of the fragrance oil. The individual classification of an ingredient does not automatically mean that the fragrance oil itself carries the same classification.

Is this fragrance oil phthalate-free and paraben-free?

Yes. Our fragrance oils are formulated without added phthalates or parabens. Detailed compositional and hazard information for each fragrance is provided through its accompanying technical documentation.

Can I apply this fragrance oil directly to my skin?

No. Fragrance oils are concentrated raw materials intended for formulation into finished products. They must be appropriately diluted and used within the applicable IFRA limits for the intended application.

Should I test the fragrance in my own formulation?

Yes. Performance can vary depending on the base, materials, fragrance concentration and manufacturing process. We recommend testing every fragrance in a small, production-representative batch before scaling up.
