Please note

This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.

For specific usage limits, please refer to the Bergamot Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab.

Olfactive Profile

  • Note classification: Top note
  • Scent family: Citrus / Fresh / Green / Light Floral

Bergamot Essential Oil has a refined citrus profile with a fresh, sweet, lightly floral character and a soft green bitterness. It is brighter than orange, smoother than lemon, and more elegant than grapefruit, with a delicate aromatic nuance that makes it especially useful in fresh, clean, and spa-inspired compositions. The opening is sparkling and uplifting, while the drydown becomes softer, greener, and slightly floral. Compared to sharper citrus oils, bergamot feels more polished and balanced, making it a classic top note for cologne-style blends, botanical florals, fresh woods, herbal accords, and diffuser formulas.

Formulation & Creative Uses

Bergamot Essential Oil works as a natural top-note brightener. It adds lift, freshness, and clarity to a formula, helping heavier materials feel more open and refined. It can soften dense florals, woods, resins, herbs, and spices while giving the final blend a cleaner and more elegant first impression.

Common applications

  • Diffusers: Excellent for fresh, uplifting, spa-like, citrus-floral, and aromatic blends.
  • Candles & wax melts: Adds natural citrus brightness, although delicate citrus top notes may soften during heating.
  • Soaps: Brings freshness and brightness, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
  • Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
  • Perfumery: Useful in cologne accords, tea-inspired blends, citrus florals, fresh woods, aromatic compositions, and clean musky structures.

Creative directions

Use Bergamot Essential Oil when a formula needs brightness, lift, and a refined citrus opening. It works especially well as a top-note modifier in blends that feel too heavy, flat, sweet, herbal, or woody, helping the composition open with more clarity and elegance.

For spa and diffuser blends, pair bergamot with lavender, cedarwood, frankincense, or amyris to create a calm, polished atmosphere. For fresh floral directions, combine it with neroli, geranium, jasmine, or ylang ylang to add a more radiant and natural floral opening. For aromatic or cologne-style blends, use it with rosemary, basil, clary sage, lavender, and light woods.

Bergamot is also useful in tea-inspired, Mediterranean, clean woody, and soft citrus-musk compositions. Because it is a volatile citrus top note, it gives excellent lift at the opening but should be supported with longer-lasting materials when the formula needs stronger persistence or a more defined drydown.

Storage & Natural Variations

As this is a cold-pressed bergamot oil and not confirmed as FCF / bergapten-free, phototoxicity must be considered for leave-on skin applications exposed to sunlight or UV light. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. Wash-off products generally present a different risk profile than leave-on products, but the final safety assessment remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, climate, origin, plant material, and natural compositional variation.

Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.

To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Citrus essential oils are oxidation-sensitive, and prolonged exposure to air or improper storage may affect aroma, performance, and skin-sensitization potential over time.
