Please note

This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.

For specific usage limits, please refer to the Tea Tree Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Packaging note: 10g testers are supplied in PET bottles for affordable evaluation and are not intended for long-term archival storage. Production sizes from 50g upwards are supplied in premium aluminium bottles for improved long-term protection. Read more

Olfactive Profile

  • Note classification: Top to middle note
  • Scent family: Herbal / Medicinal / Camphoraceous / Fresh

Tea Tree Essential Oil has a fresh, sharp, and medicinal-herbal profile with camphoraceous, slightly woody, green, and terpenic facets. It feels more medicinal than lavender, less cooling than peppermint, and drier than eucalyptus. Its character is clean, functional, and highly recognisable, making it especially useful in wellness, cleansing, herbal, spa, fresh-air, and problem-solving botanical compositions.

The opening is sharp, herbal, and penetrating, while the drydown becomes drier, greener, and lightly woody. Compared to softer aromatic oils, tea tree brings a more functional and direct freshness, making it valuable when a formula needs a clean botanical identity, a sharper herbal structure, or a more practical wellness-style character.

Formulation & Creative Uses

Tea Tree Essential Oil works as a functional herbal top-to-middle note. It adds sharpness, cleanliness, aromatic clarity, and a recognisable wellness character to a formula, helping citrus, mint, eucalyptus, woody, herbal, or clean musky compositions feel more practical and botanical. It is especially useful when a blend needs a medicinal-clean identity rather than a soft spa profile.

Common applications

  • Diffusers: Useful for clean, herbal, spa-like, fresh-air, cleansing, and wellness-inspired blends, always within IFRA limits.
  • Candles & wax melts: Adds sharp herbal freshness, especially in eucalyptus-tea tree, clean home, spa, fresh botanical, herbal, and functional wellness compositions.
  • Soaps: Brings a clear medicinal-herbal character, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
  • Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
  • Perfumery: Useful in herbal accords, aromatic colognes, spa structures, fresh woody blends, green functional compositions, clean musks, and medicinal botanical effects.

Creative directions

Use Tea Tree Essential Oil when a formula needs cleanliness, herbal sharpness, and a more functional aromatic character. It works especially well in blends that feel too soft, sweet, floral, creamy, musky, or decorative, helping the composition become more direct, fresh, and purposeful.

For spa and cleansing blends, combine tea tree with eucalyptus, rosemary, lavender, peppermint, pine, or lemon to create a crisp and functional atmosphere. For fresh home fragrance directions, use it with citrus oils, spearmint, basil, thyme, or light woods to build a clean botanical profile. For more balanced personal care compositions, pair it with lavender, cedarwood, amyris, frankincense, soft musks, or gentle citrus materials to reduce the medicinal edge and give the blend more polish.

Tea tree is also useful in herbal soap accords, clean bathroom-style fragrances, fresh air blends, wellness-themed diffusers, and sharp aromatic structures. Because it is highly recognisable and medicinal, it can dominate delicate formulas or make them feel too clinical if overdosed. It performs best when softened with lavender, citrus, woods, musks, or resinous materials that round out its direct herbal character.

Storage & Natural Variations

Tea Tree Essential Oil is classified as flammable, harmful if swallowed, irritating to the skin, irritating to the eyes, sensitising, suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child, may cause drowsiness or dizziness, hazardous if swallowed and enters the airways, and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. The final safety assessment, dilution level, labeling, and regulatory compliance remain the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, climate, origin, plant material, and natural compositional variation.

Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.

To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Tea tree oil is oxidation-sensitive, and prolonged exposure to air or improper storage may affect aroma, performance, and skin-sensitization potential over time. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place, keep away from ignition sources, and avoid release into drains, surface water, or the environment.

Product Guidance & FAQs

How can I use this essential oil and at what concentration?

The appropriate concentration depends on the essential oil, intended application and complete finished formulation. Refer to the Product Suitability Guide and applicable technical documentation for the relevant limits, and always test at the intended concentration before production.

Does this essential oil contain allergens?

Essential oils are naturally complex mixtures and may contain naturally occurring fragrance allergens such as limonene, linalool, citral or geraniol, depending on the botanical material. Relevant constituents and hazard information are disclosed in the product documentation where applicable.

Are essential oils naturally variable?

Yes. As botanical materials, essential oils can show normal variations in colour, odour and constituent profile between batches, harvests and origins. Such variation does not necessarily indicate a difference in quality or authenticity.

Can I apply this essential oil directly to my skin?

Essential oils are concentrated aromatic raw materials and should not be assumed suitable for undiluted skin application. Any use in a finished cosmetic or personal-care formulation must take account of the specific oil, concentration, applicable restrictions and complete formulation.

Should I test the essential oil in my own formulation?

Yes. Solubility, stability, scent profile and performance can vary considerably between bases and applications. Small-scale testing in the actual formulation is recommended before production.
