Geranium Essential Oil
Geranium Essential Oil has a rich floral aroma with fresh green, rosy, slightly minty, and soft fruity nuances. Known for its balancing and uplifting profile, it’s ideal for candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, perfumes, and personal care formulations where a natural floral-green note is desired. This oil brings brightness, softness, and elegant botanical character to blends, especially when paired with lavender, bergamot, clary sage, rose, patchouli, cedarwood, frankincense, citrus oils, or soft musks.
Geranium Essential Oil offers excellent versatility across candles, diffusers, soaps, perfumes, and personal care formulations, with generous IFRA allowance in key applications and no headline restriction for candles. Its floral-green profile makes it especially useful in skincare-inspired, wellness, spa, floral, herbal, and mood-balancing blends where a natural rose-like effect is desired without using rose oil. A classic natural aromatic material, Geranium helps smooth citrus, herbal, woody, amber, musky, and floral compositions while adding freshness, lift, and a polished botanical heart.

Please note
This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.
For specific usage limits, please refer to the Geranium Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Olfactive Profile
- Note classification: Middle note
- Scent family: Floral / Green / Rosy / Herbal
Geranium Essential Oil has a floral, green, and rosy profile with fresh, minty, leafy, slightly fruity, and soft herbal nuances. It feels greener and more aromatic than rose, more floral than clary sage, and softer than sharp herbal oils. Its character is bright, balanced, and naturally elegant, making it especially useful in floral, skincare-inspired, spa, herbal, chypre, fougere, citrus, and musky compositions.
The opening is fresh, green, and slightly minty, while the heart becomes more floral, rosy, and softly fruity. Compared to heavier floral oils, Geranium brings lift and botanical clarity, making it valuable when a formula needs a natural floral heart without becoming too sweet, powdery, or heavy.

Formulation & Creative Uses
Geranium Essential Oil works as a floral-green middle note with strong aromatic character. It adds rosy freshness, green lift, floral body, and a smooth botanical heart to a formula, helping citrus, herbal, woody, amber, musky, and floral compositions feel more balanced and refined. It is especially useful when a blend needs a natural floral effect that is fresher, greener, and more affordable than rose oil.
Common applications
- Diffusers: Excellent for balancing, floral, green, spa-like, uplifting, fresh botanical, and wellness-inspired blends.
- Candles & wax melts: Adds a floral-green heart, especially in rose garden, herbal floral, spa, fresh botanical, spring floral, floral musk, and citrus-floral home fragrance compositions.
- Soaps: Brings a strong floral-green character, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
- Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
- Perfumery: Useful in rose accords, green florals, chypres, fougeres, herbal florals, musky florals, citrus colognes, skincare-style perfumes, and natural perfumery blends.
Creative directions
Use Geranium Essential Oil when a formula needs floral lift, green freshness, and a natural rosy heart. It works especially well in blends that feel too citrusy, flat, woody, earthy, heavy, or plain, helping the composition become brighter, more floral, and more emotionally rounded.
For floral compositions, combine Geranium with rose, lavender, ylang ylang, jasmine-style materials, clary sage, or soft musks to create a fuller botanical heart. For citrus-floral directions, use it with bergamot, orange, mandarine, grapefruit, lemon, petitgrain, or lime to build a fresh and polished opening. For deeper and more grounded blends, pair it with patchouli, vetiver, cedarwood, frankincense, sandalwood, amber materials, or soft balsamic notes.
Geranium is also useful in natural skincare-style fragrances, herbal soaps, floral diffusers, balancing spa blends, green colognes, and elegant rose alternatives. Because it has a strong rosy-green identity, it can dominate delicate blends if overdosed. It performs best when balanced with citrus oils, soft florals, woods, musks, herbs, or gentle resins that frame its floral freshness.
Storage & Natural Variations
Geranium Essential Oil is classified as irritating to the skin, sensitising, causing serious eye damage, and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. The final safety assessment, dilution level, labeling, and regulatory compliance remain the responsibility of the manufacturer.
Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, viscosity, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, origin, leaf and flower quality, distillation conditions, aging, and natural compositional variation.
Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.
To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Geranium Essential Oil contains naturally occurring floral terpenic materials and should be protected from oxidation to preserve its fresh green-floral character. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and avoid release into drains, surface water, or the environment.
