Rosewood Essential Oil

Rosewood Essential Oil is a sweet, delicately woody/floral oil steam distilled from the heartwood of Aniba rosaeodora. Known for its emotionally balancing and skin-friendly properties, it’s ideal for high-end personal care, aromatherapy blends, and air care applications. This elegant oil brings a smooth, comforting tone to candles, soaps, perfumes, and diffuser blends. Beyond its gentle aromatic character, Rosewood Essential Oil offers broad versatility across wellness and home fragrance formulations. Rich in natural linalool, it supports relaxation, emotional uplift, and mild pain relief, making it suitable for stress-reducing and sleep-enhancing products. Its mild analgesic, antibacterial, and insect-repelling properties also lend it value in skin and room care formulas. Often favored in mood-balancing diffuser blends and upscale floral-wood perfumes, Rosewood is a timeless ingredient that adds depth, softness, and therapeutic richness to any formulation.

Please note

This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.

For specific usage limits, please refer to the Rosewood Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Olfactive Profile

  • Note classification: Middle note
  • Scent family: Floral / Woody / Soft / Fresh

Rosewood Essential Oil has a soft, sweet, floral-woody profile with a fresh, slightly rosy character and a smooth, comforting warmth. It feels gentler and more floral than cedarwood, less resinous than frankincense, and more rounded than many sharper woody oils. Its high natural linalool character gives it a clean, polished softness that works beautifully in calm, elegant, and skin-like compositions.

The opening is fresh, sweet, and lightly floral, while the drydown becomes smoother, warmer, and more woody. Compared to heavier woods, rosewood feels refined and transparent, making it especially useful in wellness blends, floral woods, soft musky structures, elegant diffuser formulas, and high-end personal care compositions where a gentle aromatic bridge is needed.

Formulation & Creative Uses

Rosewood Essential Oil works as a soft floral-woody modifier. It adds smoothness, comfort, and natural elegance to a formula, helping sharper citrus oils, herbal notes, florals, woods, resins, and musks feel more rounded and connected. It is especially useful when a blend needs softness without becoming powdery, sweetness without becoming gourmand, and woodiness without becoming dry or heavy.

Common applications

  • Diffusers: Excellent for calming, elegant, floral-woody, spa-like, meditative, and emotionally comforting blends.
  • Candles & wax melts: Adds soft woody warmth and floral smoothness, especially in spa, wellness, floral, musky, and refined woody compositions.
  • Soaps: Brings a gentle floral-woody character, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
  • Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
  • Perfumery: Useful in floral woods, soft musks, skin-like accords, lavender blends, citrus florals, gentle amber structures, and natural wellness perfumes.

Creative directions

Use Rosewood Essential Oil when a formula needs softness, polish, and a gentle floral-woody heart. It works especially well in blends that feel too sharp, medicinal, green, dry, or fragmented, helping the composition become smoother, warmer, and more emotionally rounded.

For relaxation and wellness blends, combine rosewood with lavender, bergamot, frankincense, cedarwood, or amyris to create a calm, elegant atmosphere. For floral directions, use it with geranium, ylang ylang, jasmine, neroli, or palmarosa to add a soft woody undertone and a more luxurious natural texture. For clean and skin-like blends, pair it with light musks, soft woods, citrus oils, and gentle balsamic materials.

Rosewood is also useful in spa, meditation, soft floral, citrus-wood, and refined personal care compositions. Because its character is smooth and subtle rather than forceful, it is best used as a harmonising material rather than the only defining note. It performs especially well when supported by brighter top notes or deeper woods and resins that help frame its gentle floral-woody character.

Storage & Natural Variations

Rosewood Essential Oil is classified as irritating to the skin, irritating to the eyes, sensitising, and harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. The final safety assessment, dilution level, labeling, and regulatory compliance remain the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, climate, origin, plant material, and natural compositional variation.

Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.

To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, keep the container tightly closed, and avoid release into drains, surface water, or the environment.

Product Guidance & FAQs

How can I use this essential oil and at what concentration?

The appropriate concentration depends on the essential oil, intended application and complete finished formulation. Refer to the Product Suitability Guide and applicable technical documentation for the relevant limits, and always test at the intended concentration before production.

Does this essential oil contain allergens?

Essential oils are naturally complex mixtures and may contain naturally occurring fragrance allergens such as limonene, linalool, citral or geraniol, depending on the botanical material. Relevant constituents and hazard information are disclosed in the product documentation where applicable.

Are essential oils naturally variable?

Yes. As botanical materials, essential oils can show normal variations in colour, odour and constituent profile between batches, harvests and origins. Such variation does not necessarily indicate a difference in quality or authenticity.

Can I apply this essential oil directly to my skin?

Essential oils are concentrated aromatic raw materials and should not be assumed suitable for undiluted skin application. Any use in a finished cosmetic or personal-care formulation must take account of the specific oil, concentration, applicable restrictions and complete formulation.

Should I test the essential oil in my own formulation?

Yes. Solubility, stability, scent profile and performance can vary considerably between bases and applications. Small-scale testing in the actual formulation is recommended before production.
