Vetiver Essential Oil
Vetiver Essential Oil has a deep, earthy, and smoky-woody aroma with a sweet rooty warmth and a naturally grounding character. Known for its long-lasting and anchoring profile, it’s ideal for candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, perfumes, and personal care formulations where depth, texture, and base strength are desired. This oil brings richness, darkness, and elegant earthy structure to blends, especially when paired with citrus oils, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood, frankincense, lavender, amber materials, or soft musks.
Vetiver Essential Oil offers excellent versatility across candles, diffusers, soaps, perfumes, and personal care formulations, with no headline IFRA restriction in these key applications. It is also listed as containing no declarable allergens, making it especially useful for makers who want a deep, natural base note with a cleaner allergen profile. Its earthy, woody, and long-lasting character helps anchor blends, improve depth, and give structure to lighter citrus, floral, herbal, amber, or musky compositions. A staple base note in perfumery, Vetiver brings grounding, elegance, and lasting performance to any blend.

Please note
This is a pure, undiluted essential oil designed for crafting end products such as candles, diffusers, soaps, bath products, and other personal care items. Essential oils are highly concentrated and should not be applied directly to the skin without proper dilution in a carrier oil. All our essential oils are measured in grams, not milliliters. Bottle fill levels may vary due to differences in oil density, which affects volume.
For specific usage limits, please refer to the Vetiver Essential Oil IFRA guidelines or consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) included in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Olfactive Profile
- Note classification: Base note
- Scent family: Earthy / Woody / Smoky / Rooty
Vetiver Essential Oil has a deep, earthy, woody profile with smoky, rooty, dry, slightly sweet, and leathery nuances. It feels darker and drier than cedarwood, more rooty and textured than sandalwood, and cleaner than very heavy patchouli. Its character is grounding, elegant, and naturally long-lasting, making it especially useful in woody, amber, chypre, incense, leather, earthy, masculine, and meditative compositions.
The opening is earthy, dry, and root-like, while the drydown becomes warmer, smoother, smokier, and more woody. Compared to lighter aromatic oils, vetiver brings weight, persistence, and a strong base structure, making it valuable when a formula needs depth, dryness, natural elegance, and lasting power.

Formulation & Creative Uses
Vetiver Essential Oil works as a deep earthy-woody base note and natural anchor. It adds dryness, texture, depth, longevity, and a grounded root-like structure to a formula, helping citrus, floral, woody, amber, resinous, herbal, musky, or spicy compositions feel more complete and sophisticated. It is especially useful when a blend needs a darker base without becoming overly sweet, gourmand, or resinous.
Common applications
- Diffusers: Excellent for grounding, earthy, woody, meditative, smoky, amber, incense, and calming atmospheric blends.
- Candles & wax melts: Adds deep woody warmth and earthy texture, especially in amber woods, incense, forest, leather, autumn, smoky woods, and masculine home fragrance compositions.
- Soaps: Brings a persistent earthy-woody character, with testing required for scent retention and process stability.
- Bath & body products: Suitable when used within IFRA limits and proper dilution guidelines.
- Perfumery: Useful in woody bases, chypres, ambers, leather accords, incense blends, fougeres, masculine compositions, dry florals, earthy musks, and natural fixative structures.
Creative directions
Use Vetiver Essential Oil when a formula needs grounding, dryness, and long-lasting woody depth. It works especially well in blends that feel too bright, sweet, thin, fruity, floral, or fleeting, helping the composition become more structured, mature, and anchored.
For woody and earthy compositions, combine vetiver with cedarwood, sandalwood, patchouli, amyris, oakmoss-style materials, pine, fir, or frankincense to build a deeper natural base. For citrus-vetiver directions, use it with bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, mandarine, or petitgrain to create a fresh opening over a dry earthy foundation. For amber, incense, and leather-style blends, pair it with labdanum-style accords, benzoin, myrrh, frankincense, vanilla-like materials, tobacco-style notes, soft musks, or smoky woods.
Vetiver is also useful in masculine colognes, meditation blends, dry florals, earthy spa profiles, autumn home fragrance, elegant woody perfumes, and long-lasting natural bases. Because it is dense, rooty, and highly persistent, it can make a formula feel heavy, muddy, or too dry if overdosed. It performs best when balanced with citrus oils, soft woods, florals, resins, musks, or gentle aromatic materials that lift and polish its earthy character.
Storage & Natural Variations
Vetiver Essential Oil is classified as irritating to the skin, sensitising, and irritating to the eyes. Always follow the IFRA guidance and SDS for the intended product category. The final safety assessment, dilution level, labeling, and regulatory compliance remain the responsibility of the manufacturer.
Essential oils are natural aromatic materials, and slight variations in scent, colour, density, viscosity, and appearance may occur from batch to batch. These differences are normal and can be influenced by harvest conditions, origin, root quality, distillation conditions, aging, and natural compositional variation.
Vetiver Essential Oil is naturally dark, viscous, and long-lasting, and its aroma can feel smoother, deeper, and more rounded over time. This aging character is normal for vetiver, but the oil should still be stored correctly to protect its quality and prevent unnecessary degradation.
Scent perception may also vary depending on individual sensitivity, dilution level, formulation base, and application method. Essential oils may not smell exactly the same in the bottle as they do in a finished product. We strongly recommend testing a 10g bottle before committing to larger quantities, especially for commercial production.
To preserve quality, store tightly sealed in the original container, away from heat, light, air, and moisture. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and avoid release into drains, surface water, or the environment.
