Methyl Ionone Gamma Aroma Molecule

Methyl Ionone Gamma Aroma Molecule belongs to the ionone family, a key group of materials used to create violet, iris, and powdery floral effects. Its scent is smooth and elegant, with a floral-woody body, a soft fruity violet nuance, and a dry cedar-like base facet. It is especially useful when a formula needs floral sophistication rather than obvious freshness or sweetness. In the right balance, it gives compositions a polished, powdery, slightly nostalgic character that feels refined and very perfumery-like.

  • Main impression: Powdery violet iris
  • Supporting facets: Raspberry, soft wood, cedar, dry floral
  • Drydown character: Powdery, elegant, woody, refined
  • Used for: Violet accords, iris effects, powdery florals, woody florals, soft feminine bases

Please note

This is a single aroma molecule / raw perfumery material, not a finished perfume or fragrance oil. It is intended for formulation work and must not be applied directly to the skin undiluted. Aroma molecules are powerful materials that may behave differently depending on dosage, solvent system, wax, diffuser base, cosmetic base, temperature, and the full composition. Always test in your intended application before production.

Full safety, allergen, IFRA, and technical information is provided in the SDS, IFRA Certificate, and Allergen Declaration available in the “Related Documents” tab. Compliance and documentation of the final product remains the responsibility of the manufacturer.

Olfactive Profile

  • Primary character: Powdery violet-iris floral with a soft woody base.
  • Secondary nuances: Raspberry, dry cedar, faded petals, soft fruit, creamy floral powder, and gentle woody warmth.
  • Texture: Smooth, powdery, elegant, and slightly dry rather than juicy, sharp, or fresh.
  • Diffusion: Moderate and soft, with good presence in floral heart and base structures.
  • Tenacity: Long-lasting, especially in violet, iris, powdery floral, woody floral, and musky compositions.
  • Comparison anchor: More powdery and violet-like than Phenylethyl Alcohol, woodier than classic ionone sweetness, and less airy than Hedione MDJ.

Methyl Ionone Gamma Aroma Molecule smells like soft violet powder blended with iris, faint raspberry, and a dry woody shadow. It does not smell like a fresh flower bouquet or a juicy fruit material. Instead, it creates a refined powdery floral atmosphere, the kind of effect that makes a formula feel more elegant, vintage, and composed. Its woody facet gives it more structure than a simple sweet floral material.

Formulation & Creative Uses

What It Adds to Your Formula

  • Powdery floral texture: Adds violet, iris, and soft cosmetic powder effects.
  • Woody floral body: Gives florals more depth and drydown structure.
  • Elegance: Makes compositions feel more refined, polished, and perfumery-like.
  • Soft fruit nuance: Adds a delicate raspberry-violet tone without becoming juicy.
  • Floral blending: Helps connect rose, jasmine, violet, iris, woods, musks, and ambers.
  • Tenacity: Supports longer-lasting floral and powdery drydowns.

What It Does Not Do

  • It does not create a full iris accord alone: It needs woods, musks, violet materials, orris-style notes, or powdery supports.
  • It does not add bright freshness: It is soft, powdery, and woody rather than citrusy or green.
  • It does not create strong sweetness: Its fruity nuance is refined and floral, not gourmand.
  • It is not completely neutral: It contains allergen-relevant components and should be calculated in final declarations.

Creative Uses

Methyl Ionone Gamma is excellent for violet accords, iris effects, powdery florals, rose-violet blends, woody floral structures, feminine musks, soft ambers, and cosmetic-style compositions. It can give rose a more powdery elegance, make jasmine or ylang ylang feel smoother, and add refined floral depth to woody or musky bases. In home fragrance, it works beautifully in powder, soft floral, violet, iris, luxury soap, cosmetic, and elegant hotel-style profiles.

Creative Inspiration

Use Methyl Ionone Gamma Aroma Molecule with Phenylethyl Alcohol for a soft rose-violet heart. Pair it with Benzyl Salicylate for a smoother floral-balsamic body. Combine it with Hedione MDJ for airy powdery floral diffusion. Use it with Sandalore, Iso E Super, or Ethylene Brassylate to create a modern powdery wood-musk drydown.

Common Applications

  • Fine fragrance: Useful in violet, iris, rose, powdery floral, woody floral, musky, and modern feminine compositions.
  • Candles & wax melts: Suitable where the final formula allows; especially useful for powder, violet, iris, soft floral, cosmetic, and elegant woody-floral candle profiles.
  • Reed diffusers: Adds powdery floral body and soft woody persistence, subject to base compatibility and final safety calculation.
  • Room sprays: Useful for powdery floral, clean cosmetic, violet, soft musk, and elegant home fragrance profiles.
  • Soaps & rinse-off products: Can support violet, powdery floral, rose, iris, soap, and cosmetic profiles within the relevant IFRA limits.
  • Cosmetic fragrance bases: Suitable where permitted by IFRA and final product safety assessment.

Usage, Dose & Performance

  • Suggested starting dose: 0.5–5% of the fragrance concentrate for early trials.
  • Trace use: Adds subtle powdery elegance and soft floral depth.
  • Moderate use: Creates a clear violet-iris floral effect with woody softness.
  • High use: Can become dominant, powdery, dry, and recognisably ionone-like.
  • Diffusion: Moderate and smooth, strongest in the heart and drydown.
  • Tenacity: Long-lasting, especially in floral, musky, woody, and powdery bases.
  • Blending behavior: Works well with florals, ionones, musks, woods, ambers, rose materials, violet notes, iris accords, and soft fruits.
  • Overdose risk: Can make a formula feel too powdery, dry, cosmetic, or old-fashioned if not balanced with freshness, brightness, or modern musks

Stability & Handling

Methyl Ionone Gamma should be stored tightly sealed in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from heat, ignition sources, prolonged air exposure, and direct light. It is supplied as a colourless to yellowish liquid, so no pre-warming or pre-dilution is normally required before use. Its discoloration potential is considered low to moderate: the material is pale, but ionone-type materials may gradually yellow or shift in odour with heat, oxidation, and long storage. Testing is recommended in white waxes, clear bases, pale soaps, and pastel formulations, especially at higher dosage or after heat exposure.

Safety & Testing

Methyl Ionone Gamma Aroma Molecule is a raw fragrance material for formulation use. It is not a finished perfume and must not be applied directly to the skin undiluted.

Always review the SDS, IFRA Certificate, Cosmetics Declaration, and Technical Data Sheet before use. This material contains allergen-relevant components and is IFRA-limited in some applications, so final dosage and declaration requirements must be checked carefully before production. Test the material in the intended base, as performance may vary depending on dosage, solvent system, wax type, diffuser base, surfactant system, pH, processing temperature, and packaging.

Final product safety, labelling, IFRA compliance, CLP classification, allergen declaration, cosmetic assessment, and market compliance remain the responsibility of the final product manufacturer.
